Daily Devotional - Friday

Proverbs 16:26: "The labourer's appetite works for him; his hunger drives him on."
  • "Another week has gone by in which I didn't read the Bible, pray or spend time with the Lord enough!"
  • How many times have you said the same with the greatest of intension to start afresh the following week?
  • What's the problem? I have time for all the other things I deem important!
  • I noticed something in this verse. Trying harder won't solve a thing. The problem is my lack of true spiritual hunger. I don't have a need for true spiritual food. I don't yearn for the presence of the Lord, for fellowship with Him, like a deer thirsting for water. If I had this yearning, I wouldn't struggle to find time. It is after all a labourer's hunger that drives him on. His need for food drives him.
Prayer: Lord, I so dearly want to pray with the writer of Ps. 42 "As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God.", but it would be a lie. This hunger and thirst is nowhere to be found in the way I spend my time and how I live my life. Thank you that because of what Jesus did, I may have a relationship with You. Fill me with the Holy Spirit that I may once again have the true hunger and thirst for You and an intimate relationship with You. Amen.
