The benefits of believing the Gospel

Goodmorning, For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.” Romans 1:17 -       God expects us to be 100% righteous but we are not and can never be through our own effort. We need someone else's righteousness to be given to us but it is nowhere to be found. Can you think of one person who's life is so 'right' that they would pay for your sins and theirs? -       "Cheer up, you're worse than you think" - Jack Miller -       In the Gospel God reveals to us this righteousness that we need. It is Christ. He took your sinful record and died the death your deserved. He then gave you his sinless record so that you can live the life you don't deserve. Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, I trust and believe that I'm counted righteous because of everything you did for me on the cross. I co...

Do you believe the Gospel... daily?

Goodmorning, So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. Col 2:6 -       "The gospel is not just the A-B-C’s but the A-Z of Christianity. The gospel is not just the minimum required doctrine necessary to enter the kingdom, but the way we make progress in the kingdom." - Tim Keller -       "What is true of the first turning of the sinner to the Lord must continue throughout the Christian life. There must be daily conversion of the heart to God." - Jack Miller -       "Our Lord... willed the entire life of the believers to be one of repentance." - Martin Luther Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, please help me to realise that I need your grace daily to see my sin and the fact that you have given me new life in spite of it. Amen Regards Rev. Kruger de Kock www....

How you believe the Gospel

Hi there, 1 Thessalonians 1:4-10 For we know, brothers loved by God, that he has chosen you, because our gospel came to you not simply with words, but also with power , with the Holy Spirit and with deep conviction ... you welcomed the message with the joy given by the Holy Spirit. ...you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead–Jesus, who rescues us from the coming wrath. You believe in God because - 1.       he loved you 2.       he chose you 3.       he sent someone to teach you the gospel 4.       he sent his holy spirit to enable you to welcome the gospel with power, deep conviction and joy. This supernatural embracing of the gospel causes - 1.       you to turn to God from idols 2.       you to serve God 3.       you t...

Know the Gospel

Hi there, Romans 1:1-5 Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle and set apart for the gospel of God – the gospel he promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures regarding his Son , who as to his human nature was a descendant of David, and who through the Spirit of holiness was declared with power to be the Son of God by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord. Through him and for his name's sake, we received grace and apostleship to call people from among all the Gentiles to the obedience that comes from faith . 1.       It's God's Gospel - good news from God. 2.       It's got deep historical roots - it was first promised in the Old Testament over of 3500 years ago! 3.       It's about God's Son...               who came to earth as a man, born as a descendant of David.           ...

We need community... part 2

Goodmorning, Yesterday I said that we are all made for community. The type of community that the Bible gives us as a template looks more like a loving family than a religious group. John 1:11–13 [ Jesus] came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God , who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. Believer are thus brought together by a divine love that leads them to love one another as brothers and sisters. We are supposed to treat one another as children of God - deeply loved by the Father in everything – sharing our money, time, resources, needs, hurts, successes, etc… We need to know each other well - our stories, our strengths and our struggles - especially in regards to belief in the gospel and its application to all of life. Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, you brought believers together a...

We need community...

Goodmorning, We are all made for community - just think of God's words about Adam in Genesis 2:18 - The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone..." This is not surprising since God in who's image we are made is himself a community - one God but three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. If we were made for community - what kind of community is it that we are longing for? If we look at Jesus Christ's suffering and death we see a community founded on giving rather than receiving. This is this kind of community that we long for. No more 'self-centredness in the presence of others' but a community that looks away from ourselves to the needs of others. Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, you came to complete the work your Father gave you to do (Joh 17:4). We praise you for your service and sacrifice and ask that you will make our church community more and more serving like you. Amen Regards Rev. Kruger de Kock www.canadawa...
