What a Christian should do - from the book of Hebrews

Hi Blogger Hebrews 4:11  Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest , so that no one will fall by following their example of disobedience. For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double‑edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account. -       To enter God's rest we must fulfil his law of love for him and our fellow human beings 100%. -       We can try to do it but the reality is that God sees our wrong attitude and corrupt motives with which we try to love him and others. -       It is because we couldn't love him or our neighbour as we should that he provided a Saviour for us. -       Let us 'make every effort' to conti...

The promise of Christianity - from the book of Hebrews

Hi Blogger Hebrews 4:1 Therefore, since the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us be careful that none of you be found to have fallen short of it. 2 For we also have had the gospel preached to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because those who heard did not combine it with faith. 3 Now we who have believed enter that rest, -       It is easy to misunderstand the central promise of Christianity. -       It is not: work hard to earn the eternal rest. -       It is: In Christ God has worked hard to earn the eternal rest for us. -       Who is the 'us'? Those that believe that this Gospel is true. Prayer : Lord Jesus Christ, I must confess that my confidence in your promise comes and goes in direct relation to the amount of 'good' or 'bad' things I do. Help me instead to get my con...

What a Christian is like - from the book of Hebrews

Hi Blogger Hebrews 3:12 See to it, brothers, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God.13 But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin's deceitfulness.14 We have come to share in Christ if we hold firmly till the end the confidence we had at first. -       Faith in Jesus Christ starts in the heart. There is a confidence that that God is for us and not against us that influences all our decisions. -       Thee is constant pressure on all of us to believe the lie that God is against us. -       To counter this pressure believers need to encourage one another constantly. Prayer : Lord Jesus Christ, thank you for renewing my heart to believe in you. Remind me daily, even through other believers that I can have great confidence in the you and the work you've done on the cross. Amen Notice: ...

What Christianity is like - from the book of Hebrews

Hi Blogger Hebrews 2:14 Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil— and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death. -       Christianity is completely different from other religions in that it doesn't first expect us to go to God and become like him, but that God comes to us and becomes one of us. -       And far from preying on our fear of death Christ comes to free Christians from the slavery of that fear. -       His victory over our fear is not temporary or provisional - it is the final destruction of all evil. Prayer : Lord Jesus Christ, looking at the world we still see lot's of reasons to fear evil and death. We pray that we will not live in fear but in the faith that death is a door that leads to you - our exalted o...

What God is like - from the book of Hebrews

Hi Blogger Hebrews 1:1-3 In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. -       If we ever wondered what God would be like if He were a man, we can just look at Jesus Christ. -       The one deed that made it clear what kind of person he is was his sacrificial death which he died in the place of all sinners. -       But, we need to look further than the Jewish man and also see him as the glorious Son of God, now in heaven in radiance and glory from where he runs the universe! Prayer : Lord Jesus Christ...
