Theme: Basic Theology
The basics are:
1. Know how great our sin and misery are.
2. Know how we are set free from sin and misery.
3. How
I am to thank God for such deliverance.
We might think that thanking God must be decision, driven by immense feelings of guilt for our past sins. But Paul explains in 1 Corinthians 6:19 that we are to thank and glorify God with an even deeper motivation: "
Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body."
- The motivation for our 'thanking' of God is not guilt but an entirely new identity, bought with the death of Christ.
- To the extent that you are aware of who you now are in Christ, to that extent will you be able to truly thank and glorify God through living a God pleasing life.
- Take a moment and think not of what others think of you, but what God thinks of you in Christ. Doesn't that stir your heart to live a life that matches your identity?
Prayer: King Jesus, through the price of your death I have been bought free from my slavery to satan and sin. I am now a child of the Good King and want to live a life that fits your character (and my cost). Please lead me to a Holy life, for your Name's sake - Amen.
