Ephesians 2:8-10
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
- It is easy to think that a Christian has done something to get God's favour.
- Even the faith a believer has is a gift from God. This has two implications:
- We can't claim any credit for the fact that we believe in God - it is a gift from God.
- We can't look down on anyone who doesn't believe - it is a gift from God to believe.
Prayer: Father God, we confess that we sometimes feel superior towards those that doesn't believe. Help every believer to understand that we have nothing to boast in - except for what you have done for us on the cross. Help us to find our deepest identity in the fact that we are your workmanship. Amen
