Ecclesiastes 2:10
And whatever my eyes desired I did not keep from them. I kept my heart from no pleasure, for my heart found pleasure in all my toil, and this was my reward for all my toil. Then I considered all that my hands had done and the toil I had expended in doing it, and behold, all was vanity and a striving after wind, and there was nothing to be gained under the sun.

  • Here we read that the writer of Ecclesiastes worked hard for his wages, and enjoyed spending his income on the things that he wanted.
  • Today we can fully relate to this.
  • But perhaps we can also relate to the Preachers' conclusion: none of the things he bought gave him any lasting pleasure...

Prayer: Father God, you said in Psalm 16 that
in your presence there is fullness of joy...
pleasures forevermore!  This is in sharp contrast to our experience in life, and we long to experience that.  Please help us to see how precious it is and will be to have you.  Amen
