Matthew 16:24-26
Then Jesus told his disciples, "If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul?
- We deny ourselves all kinds of things to get things that are worth more to us.
- A musician might deny him- or herself time with friends because he might be practicing his instrument.
- Through the pages of Scripture God is showing us that He is worth persuing - that He is worth denying ourselves certian pleasures to find our deepest pleasure and joy in Him. Have you discovered this?
Prayer: Lord Jesus, with the thousands and thousands of angels in Revelation 5 I want to add my voice and say:
"Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!"
