Hi Blogger,
What is the first image that comes to mind as you hear the word 'meditation'? Most of us will invariably think of someone sitting in the lotus position, legs folded, hands relaxed by their sides and eyes closed. Christianity has a different idea of it altogether.
As part of a Christians' spiritual life we mostly do two things: read the Bible and pray. Meditation is a combination of both. It is taking truth from the Bible and instead of praying it to God, we take it and tell ourselves this truth about God.
In Psalm 1 we hear that David 'meditates' on God's law day and night. In Psalm 103 we get a glimpse of what he does: "Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits." He is talking to himself - telling himself to remember everything He knows of God through the pages of Scripture.
Prayer: Almighty God, to know you completely is impossible. Help us to take what we know of you and meditate on it moment by moment. As we remember that Christ has died for us, enable us to tell ourselves that your love for us is real and eternal. Amen
