Where did the church come from?
Jesus said: I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me, [15] just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep. [16] And I have other sheep that are not of this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock, one shepherd. John 10:14-16
> Just as God called Abraham to be his, so Christ called people to be His. Today believers make Jesus' voice heard when they call others to believe in Christ's death in their place.
> But here God explains why some hear him calling and respond while others don't. He says: "I know my own and my own know me... they will listen to my voice."
> If you are reading this today and you are a follower of Jesus see once again that you heard Jesus and responded to him because before you were born you already belonged to the Shepherd.
Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, you laid down your life for me! You then proceeded to give me faith to believe in what you've done for me. And then, without even trying you made me a member of a community of people that belong to you. As we see your love for us, help me to lay my life down for you and call others to respond to your Gospel. Amen
Another Prayer point:
Please pray for our outreach event: Carols by Candlelight on 12 December at the Hilton Hotel in Rotherhithe Street.
We need help with:
- 8 people to give out leaflets and posters around Canada Water
- 3 people to welcome people on the evening and give out Orders of Service
- 3 people to serve mulled wine and mince pies after the service
- at least 10 people to sing in the music group
- 4 people to decorate the hall with Christmas decorations before the
- 1 person to do the overhead projector / video
- 20 people to donate towards a £500 goal. An employee of a bank will top it up to £500 and his employer will match our giving up to £500 = giving us the £1000 we need!
- Daily Prayer for the event
