On hell...

I know, this is not the kind of topic you want to see on a Monday morning. The problem is if we want to understand Christianity we have to deal with hell at some point.

Whatever I am going to say this week - remember God is not a God that looks at hell from a safe distance.

Paul writes to the church in Rome (Rom 3:25): "God presented [Jesus] as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in his blood. He did this to demonstrate his justice, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished..."

-       God gave his only son as a sacrifice of atonement - or 'at-one-ment' - uniting us to God.
-       He did this by bearing our 'punishment' on the cross.
-       Without faith in the fact that he was punished in our place, we will be left to face God's eternal punishment for our sin.

Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, thank you taking the punishment I deserved and giving me the life I didn't deserve. Help me to see the cost of this gift and worship you for it. Amen.
