Can a follower of Jesus be rich? Yes. Here's why. Bible Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life. 1 Timothy 6:16-19 - Here Paul is giving Timothy guidance regarding rich Christians.
- He is not telling them to sell all their posessions in order to become Christians.
- They are already believers who are called to put their hope in God, even when they're tempted to put their hope in their bankaccount.
- They are believers who are called to enjoy life - not because they accomplished it - but remembering who gave it all to them.
- They are called to be generous - while remembering that their good deeds does not buy them heaven.
- Being a rich Christian is a huge responsibility. Many of us are rich while we think we are poor. Have you taken up this responsibility to share?
Prayer Lord Jesus Christ, many of us are wealthy and therefore especially prone to miss the life that is truly life. We tend to think our money can buy us anything while forgetting what we have in Christ we could never have bought. We confess and rejoice that our wealth is weak and powerless in view of your genorous gift to us. Amen Feel free to interact about this with me. Just reply to this email with a question or a comment.
