Living a good life will make me wealthy, healthy and happy... probably not. That might come as a surprise to you that Christianity doesn't teach 'always doing the right thing will make you prosperous'. Just listen to Asaph in Psalm 73. Bible Surely in vain I have kept my heart pure and have washed my hands in innocence. All day long I have been afflicted, and every morning brings new punishments. Psalm 73:13,14 - Perhaps our idea of wealth, health and happiness needs tweaking... Asaph's, in Psalm 73 needed a lot.
- After he said the above words to God, God showed him what real blessing is: to be guided by him and how he will one day take him to live with him in glory.
- This is the same blesssing believers can expect from God today.
- Just look at Jesus. He lived the most moral life ever 'yet he had a life full of suffering, rejection, poverty, injustice and and even torture.' Tim Keller. Why do we expect it any different?
Prayer Lord Jesus Christ, I am learning what a blessing it is to have you guide me through every trail and suffering. I rejoice now that I will one day be with you, based not on my purity but on your purity in my place. That, I believe is real blessing. Amen Regards, Kruger | |
