This week I want to help you to make the most of the sermons you hear on Sundays. What follows this week are are some of the things I think God called me to do when I preach (I knicked them from Felipe Assis - a fellow church planter in Redeemer City to City).
He said to them, “How foolish you are, and how slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken! Did not the Christ have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?” And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself. Luke 24:25-27
- My job on a Sunday is to explain every text in the light of Jesus and Jesus in the light of every text.
- In the above text from Luke 24 Jesus tells the two men he appeared to after his resurrection that that is what the Bible is all about - revealing Jesus Christ to them.
- If you listened to a sermon and didn't get to see and know and love Jesus Christ more... I haven't done what I am called to do effectively.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus Christ, at great cost you gave yourself to us. Help us not to minimise your work on the cross by either neglecting it or becoming so used to it that we miss the immensity of your death and resurrection. We pray that you will reveal yourself to your ministers this week as they prepare to explain how you reveal yourself in your word. Amen
