Do you want to get well?

A Daily Devotional from Canada Water Church and Surrey Docks Church, London

Do you want to get well?
It's one thing to be ill, it's another to want to get well.  Some people quite like it to be ill...

Bible

Here a great number of disabled people used to lie—the blind, the lame, the paralyzed. One who was there had been an invalid for thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, "Do you want to get well?" John 5:4-6
  • Why would Jesus ask a man that has been ill for 38 years if he wants to get well? Surely it goes without saying.
  • But the matter of the fact is that we sometimes we revel in our 'illness'.  Have your sinful habits become so much part of who you are that you can't imagine life without them?
  • Faith in Jesus Christ requires the desire to get well - to be made alive!
Prayer
Lord Jesus Christ, even though I believe in you I do sometimes live as if I am still 'ill'.  I sometimes give my life over to my desires and reject the life that you gave to me on the cross.  Thank you that you not only made me well, but that you made me alive in you. Please help me to want to become more like you.  Amen

Regards,
Kruger
