Pointless riots... Perhaps it's not surprising to hear that the Bible has a lot to say about riots - after all, Jesus was killed by an organized mob (for the organized mob). Just listen to Paul describing the state of our hearts when we don't know God as our Saviour. Bible For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Rom 1:21 They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen. Rom 1:25 - These riots are not the result of a bad upbringing or poverty or the lack of opportunities. It is the result of man's total depravity - our futile thinking and foolish hearts.
- That's why we see children risking their lives to get hold of trainers or mobile phones - it's worth more to them than following God.
- Someone tweeted: "The Youth of the Middle East rise up for basic freedoms. The Youth of London rise up for a HD ready 42" Plasma TV" #londonriots
- It's utterly pointless and futile but in many ways not surprising. Don't we find ourselves frequently worshipping created things rather than the Creator?
Prayer Lord Jesus Christ, we want to come confessing that if it weren't for your grace we too would have been raiding the shops of hardworking people to steal what we want. We thank you for your grace to us but we pray for peace and calm in our city today. We want to ask that you will help us and the rest of our city to hold our possessions lightly and value what you value: love for each other and love for you. Amen Regards, Kruger | |
