Being Homer Simpson I know it's Wikipedia but they descirbe him as "crude, overweight, incompetent, clumsy, lazy and ignorant; however, he is essentially a decent man and fiercely devoted to his family." Is that you? Might be... When you read about God's people in the Old Testament it sometimes feels like a episode of the Simpsons that plays over and over again. God is generous and gracious to his people, they commit to follow him with great dedication and then fail spectacularly... only to do it all over again and again and again. For many of us that is the story of our lives. We try, do good but eventually fail. Paul describes us pretty well in his letter to the church in Rome. Bible [We] are are all under the power of sin. As it is written: "There is no one righteous, not even one; there is no one who understands; there is no one who seeks God." Romans 3:10,11 - The only way to deal with our inability to consistantly do the right thing is not to try harder, but to acknowledge that we will always fail.
- Even though we are stuck in our deadly cycle of sin Jesus Christ died for us, paid for our sin and loves us to death.
- Realising his love for us changes us - I don't need to rely on me to change me, I can trust him that he has already changed me.
Prayer Lord Jesus Christ, I believe that your death paid the penalty I was due to pay. Please let your generous love sink deep into my heart and change me to become who I am in you - free to love you and others with 'fierce devotion'. Amen Regards, Kruger | |
