Broken Society

Broken Society
Apparently David Cameron, who built his campaign on the idea of fixing our 'broken society' will today say that "our security fightback must be matched by a social fightback. We must fight back against the attitudes and assumptions that have brought parts of our society to this shocking state."

My question is: where do we get our idea of a fixed society?  Against what are we measuring the brokenness of society?  Where do we get this longing for a better society?

Bible
All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.  Acts 2:43-46

• This is what the church looked like after Jesus poured out his Spirit on them.  They were a model community - a prototype of how society should be.
• See the most amazing feature of this community, other than the sharing of everything they had: their worship of God permeated and influenced everything they did.
• They worshiped daily in the temple courts, even when eating together with their gladness.  They shared what they had because their God shared his son.  This type of community was attractive even to those on the outside of it.
• My point is simple: we are what we worship.  In a society where we worship footballers, celebrities, brands and property - are we surprised when things break down eventually?

Prayer
Lord Jesus Christ, please help believers to show that worshipping our Father in heaven for giving us his Son we become more and more what we are supposed to be as individuals and communities: giving, generous and gracious people. Amen

Kruger
