Q 26: What do you believe when you say: "I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth?"
A. That the eternal Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who of nothing made heaven and earth with all that in them is,[1] who likewise upholds, and governs the same by His eternal counsel and providence,[2] is for the sake of Christ, His Son, my God and my Father,[3] in whom I so trust as to have no doubt that He will provide me with all things necessary for body and soul;[4] and further, that whatever evil He sends upon me in this troubled life, He will turn to my good;[5] for He is able to do it, being Almighty God,[6] and willing also, being a faithful Father.[7]
Bible
"Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Matthew 6:25-26
• To believe in the Almighty God as your faithful Father means to look to Him as your ultimate provider - for allyour physical and spiritual needs.
• Earlier today I received news of David Robertson, a minister friend of mine in Dundee who is severely ill. His son Andrew writes: "There is still a hope that he'll make it through this, but there is a better hope he has and we have. A hope that does not waver and is 100% certain. That is the hope of eternal salvation through Jesus Christ. Jesus has already removed Dad's biggest problem, it's not the deterioration of his lungs but something more deadly... his sin. Christ has saved him from that. Tomorrow I go down with Becky to Dundee, knowing that this may be the last time I see my Dad... till Christ returns and "everything sad is made untrue."
• That is what it means to have an Almighty Faithful Father, one who cares for every believer's ultimate spiritual need.
Prayer
Our Heavenly Father, we want to pray for every person who is currently experiencing their own inability to provided for themselves, whatever their need is. We pray that they will discover in you a grace that overwhelms their wildest expectations - a Father who loves them so much that He gave his only Son to die for their sins. We also pray for David and his family, asking that you will carry them through this difficult time. In Jesus' name, Amen.
